Authority

Bible Verses: Colossians 3:20; Proverbs 6:20; Romans 13:1,4-5; I Peter 5:5; Hebrews 13:17; Romans 13

Core Verse: Romans 13:1 – “Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.”

Understanding Authority:

There are many authorities in your life from parents to teachers to police. Wherever you go and however old you are, you will always have authorities over your life. That is why it is extremely important to know how to respond to the authority in your life appropriately.

Leadership is in your life to guide, protect, and prepare you for life. The reasons they tell you not to do something is either to protect your from hurt down the road or to guide you in what is right or wrong. The reasons they tell you to do something is either to prepare you for further responsibilities down the road or to guide you in what is right or wrong. So ask yourself, the next time you are told to do something by an authority figure, “What can I learn from doing this?” or “What is my authority trying to teach me by having me do this?”

Remember God has put EVERY authority (Christian and nonchristian) in your life. To rebel against them is to rebel against God. Romans 13:1 – “Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.”

I pray that you do not have to choose between God or Man, but if you do, recognize which is more important, fearing man or fearing God.
